The University Bands, Department
of Music, and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics would
like to invite you and your band to join The University of
Toledo’s Rocket Marching Band for Band Day 2008,
to be held Saturday, September 27. The Rockets will play host
to Florida International University with a kick-off scheduled
for 7PM. Last year’s event brought nearly 1,500 band members
together for an unforgettable performance. Our hope is to make
the 2008 event the biggest, most highly attended Band Day in UT
history!
This year’s schedule will be much
like previous years. Once all the bands arrive mid-morning, we
will begin with a massed-band rehearsal. This includes placing
everyone on the field, entering and exiting the field, a short
warm-up, and a rehearsal of the half-time music.
The Band Showcase has been a
wonderful part of the day’s events, maximizing the potential for
music education and excellence in performance, structured in a
noncompetitive, non-ratings activity for your band. We want to
give your band the opportunity to perform for a musically
appreciative audience in our beautiful, acoustically friendly
stadium. This performance is optional and very flexible as you
may perform a part of a show, a complete show, or just watch the
other bands in exhibition. These performances are very
well-received by the audience of fellow band members, directors
and parents. The Showcase will begin following the massed-band
rehearsal and end with an exhibition by the 2008 Rocket
Marching Band.
Because of our limited stadium
time, the number of bands in the Showcase will be limited to the
first 10 applications received. It is our hope that everyone
wishing to perform will be given an opportunity to do so. Plan
on a 6-8 minute presentation, on and off the field. More
detailed information will be sent to you upon confirmation of
your participation.
Due to the recent increase in
participation, the rising cost of copying/mailing music, and the
fees we are now being charged to rent campus space for this
event, we are forced to collect a small participation fee from
each participating band. This $20 fee can take the form of
check or P.O. made out to UT BANDS and mailed to: UT Band Day,
2801 W. Bancroft Str. MS605, Toledo, OH, 43606.
